CARE-O-SENE scientist Dr. Jerry Lamola receives prestigious recognition
Dr. Jairus Jerry Lesibana Lamola has been named one of the Mail & Guardian’s Top 200 Young South Africans. The highly respected South African newspaper recognised Jerry in the Technology & Innovation category. 🎉
It’s a fitting recognition for a scientist whose work is helping shape the future of energy. In addition to his work at Sasol Research and Technology, Jerry is also a Young Investigator in the German-South African CARE-O-SENE consortium, where he contributes to research focused on producing sustainable aviation fuel and helping decarbonise one of the world’s most challenging sectors.
His scientific achievements extend beyond his research. In 2025, Jerry delivered a keynote address at the Catalysis Society of South Africa’s annual conference, was inaugurated as a member of the South African Young Academy of Science and represented South Africa at the prestigious Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting in Germany.
Yet perhaps just as important is his commitment to creating opportunities for others. Through mentoring young scientists and supporting access to STEM education, Jerry is helping to ensure that the next generation can play its part in Africa’s scientific future.
Congratulations, Jerry, on this well-deserved recognition — and thank you for helping turn scientific innovation into possibilities for a more sustainable future.
